Meet Lebohang Masango.

Lebohang is a Social Anthropologist, PhD Candidate at Wits University, Poet and award-winning author of children’s books.

She co-authored Grow to Be Great: Awesome African Achievers (Sifiso Publishers, 2020) with Dr Judy Dlamini, the Chancellor of the University of the Witwatersrand, and Mpumi and Jabu’s Magical Day (David Philip, 2020) with Professor Claudine Storbeck, the Director for the Centre for Deaf Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand.

The first children’s book she wrote, Mpumi’s Magic Beads has earned her multiple awards and is also available in all 11 official languages.

.She believes in the power of storytelling and that has been at the core of all the work that she does. This podcast discusses the origins of Anthropology and what the discipline has evolved to in South Africa. We also discuss the importance of representation in the books we read and more importantly the books young children read.
